Second try to post a comment, got lost in google maze. I apologize for redundancy if my original comment surfaces.

Andrew Solomon is such a talented writer and speaker. I first read his book, The Noonday Demon many years ago as an undergrad, when I wondered if I could be suffering from depression. It was some years before I was diagnosed and treated for bipolar. Now I sit in yet another depression, and am reassured by his talk that there is hope after all, and perhaps I am not as fat, lazy, and unmotivated as I would believe. Thank you for bringing this talk to my attention!

Feeling like you are trapped under water.. looking up at someone while they reach their hand out for you, yet you smile up at them but feel comfortable in that cold dark "place" so you don't take their hand. It's just an awful feeling of accepting what is..... been there done that.
