A nice insightful article. I had wondered from where, whom really, the pre-eminence of psychoanalysis in psychiatric education into the 70s had been derived. I feel like I've been told. I liked Wm. James comments about 'fixed ideas' and the description of the 'natural manner' of Freud who reportedly decided he didn't like America because it wasn't easy to find public toilets in New York City, an interesting 'anal' critique for a man identified with the Oedipus Complex.
